About Crosby, TX
Crosby, Texas, located near the Southern Pacific Railroad, is named for railroad construction engineer, G.J. Crosby. Shortly after the Sabine and Galveston Bay Railroad and Lumber Company installed tracks through what is now Crosby, the first storefront opened in Crosby, TX in 1865.
The town quickly became a shipping and retail center for lumber and agricultural products, establishing a post office, school, church, and general store in the 1870s and 1880s. Although the Great Depression cut the population of Crosby in half, the town grew to 750 people during World War II.
According to the 2010 census, Crosby now has a population of 2,299. Crosby is home to Crosby Park and Crosby Community Center, a 46-acre facility with two baseball fields, two soccer fields, two tennis courts, a basketball pavilion, playground, a paved trail, picnic pavilions, and restrooms.
