The area that would one day become Denison, Texas held a prominent geographical position in North Texas because it was located at the intersection of two major transportation routes, the Red River and the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad. It was at this junction, that Denison became an incorporated town in 1873. Only 17 years later in 1890, another event ushered the city into a prominent position in American history by becoming the birthplace of the 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Today, Denison sits along another major Texas transportation route, Texas State Highway 75.
From the city’s founding in the late 1800’s until the mid-1960's, Denison saw a steady population growth, reaching its peak in 1966 with just over 26,000 people. Since then, the growth has decreased and it is now home to around 23,000 residents who enjoy a cost of living that is 20% less than the national average. Like many small towns near Dallas and Fort Worth, Denison is well positioned to reap the benefits of the Metroplex’s tremendous expansion as more and more people and businesses move into the North Texas region.
