About Palestine, TX
The city of Palestine, Texas was initially established in 1846, but it did not really begin to grow until the railroad arrived in 1872. The railroad helped the town ship large quantities of raw and manufactured goods from the Palestine depot to the rest of the world. To this day, the Texas State Railroad still runs through Palestine. Starting in November, the railroad turns into the Polar Express which simulates a train ride from the Palestine railroad depot to the “North Pole.” During the train ride, passengers can meet Santa Clause and enjoy winter holiday themed activities.
The last two weekends in March and the first weekend in April are a great time to be in Palestine. During these three weekends, the city holds its annual Dogwood Trails Festival. The festival is three weekends of fun and festivities that the whole family can enjoy, including arts and crafts and live entertainment. Another notable annual event is the Taste of Palestine, where attendees can taste the local cuisine and wines from the local wineries.
Beautiful Main Street Palestine is lined with mom and pop shops and local restaurants that give you a feel of days past. When visiting Main Street, be sure to take the historical walking tour of downtown and learn about the city’s past.
