At the intersection of FM 1314 and Texas State Highway 494, you can find the town of Porter, Texas. Officially, Porter is not an incorporated municipality, which means it does not govern itself. Porter is currently administered by Montgomery County and, for education, is controlled by the New Caney Independent School District. Nevertheless, Porter has a long and rich history that goes back to the 1800’s. In fact, at one point in time, Porter, Texas was the county seat of Montgomery County.
