More information on Saginaw, Texas

The city we now know as Saginaw, Texas, was founded in 1833 and was known in its early days as “Dido.” When the town decided to rename itself, one of the town’s prominent settlers, Jarvis Green, was given the task of choosing the new name. Mr. Green wanted to use the name Pontiac, after his Michigan hometown, but when the U.S. Postal Service rejected that name, he picked Saginaw, after another city in Michigan.

The city grew around the railroad like many towns, and prospered with business from the grain and flour mills that operate to this very day. Saginaw is now largely a residential area that enjoys the cultural and entertainment benefits of its proximity to Fort Worth.

Within city limits, park facilities offer outdoor fun and recreation to residents and visitors. Willow Creek Park’s 65 acres include a 2.4-mile jogging and bike path, a disc golf course, basketball courts, softball fields, and tennis and volleyball courts. Tiny Kiwanis Park, less than 100 square feet in size, is the site of a memorial honoring Saginaw’s military veterans.
