Sturgis, Michigan is a city of 11,000 located halfway between Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL in St. Joseph County, Michigan. Founded in 1827, local legend says the city was named in honor of a local resident, Judge John Sturgis, by former Michigan Governor Lewis Cass, who was smitten by a batch of homemade biscuits while dinning at the Judge’s home one evening. To this day, Judge John Sturgis’ log cabin, where his family made the famous biscuits, can still be seen at the city’s Pioneer Park.
